Tuesday afternoon at our headquarters in Northfield I got a phone call from a gun owner in House District 15B.
The caller told me that after reading our email from earlier that morning he called his representative, Jim Newberger, who is on the House Public Safety Committee, to urge him to do all he can to move HF309 out of his committee and into the Rules committee.
He had spoken with Representative Newberger’s legislative assistant who told him that the “orders are coming from the top” that Constitutional Carry was to die in that committee.
He said that House leadership doesn’t intend to move any gun bills because they’re more concerned about passing bills on the state budget, healthcare and other issues instead of passing pro-gun reforms like Constitutional Carry.
The caller was understandably angry as he and thousands of other gun owners from all over Minnesota had pounded the pavement in the weeks and months leading up to the elections to make sure we got a strong pro-gun majority in St Paul.
And now, when it’s time for his representative to follow through with passing pro-gun bills, he’s told that gun owners are being pushed to the back of the bus — AGAIN.
That’s what we’re up against, Site.
You see, it’s weak-kneed legislators – who are too scared to buck the system of leadership – that we have to overcome with the calls and the pressure from grassroots gun owners who gave them their majorities in the first place.
But this is the way it always seems to happen in politics.
As you’ve shown election after election, mobilized gun owners are an extremely powerful force when it comes to hacking out vulnerable members of the anti-gun caucus at election time, just like we saw with former Senators Skoe and Koenen.
You and I are the ones who did all the heavy lifting to ensure we have strong pro-gun majorities in St Paul and yet somehow budgets, healthcare and all these other issues take precedent to these politicians.
And the reason why is because politicians understand that most gun owners are single-issue voters and they think that if they give us a watered-down, piecemeal gun bill that we’ll reward their bad behavior at election time, year after year.
Well those days are over in Minnesota.
It’s time for the leadership to follow through on their campaign promises and pass substantive pro-gun bills like Constitutional Carry.
But the only way we’re going to get these bills to move is by doubling down on the pressure and forcing them to do what we want.
The only way we’re going to overcome weak-kneed politicians’ fear of Leadership is to make them more scared of the gun owners who will hold them accountable at election time.
That’s why I’m asking you to contact the Public Safety committee listed below and tell them to move HF309 (Constitutional Carry) out of their committee and into the Rules committee IMMEDIATELY!
If you’ve already done so, please do it again!
We need to make sure these representatives are getting the message loud and clear that they represent YOU, not leadership and not their anti-gun buddies in the capitol building.

When you’re done, please forward this email to all your gun buddies and ask them to jump in on this fight.
Remember, politics runs on momentum and pressure.
If the anti-gun and weak-kneed members of the House think they can get away with sidelining pro-gun bills and keeping your Second Amendment freedoms under lock and key, they’ll do it!
That’s why we can never let up, never slow down and never get tired.
We need to pour the phone calls, emails and Facebook messages into their offices every day until the legislature adjourns.
For Freedom,
Benjamin Dorr
Political Director
Minnesota Gun Right
P.S. House leadership is pressuring weak-kneed members of the Public Safety Committee to make sure Constitutional Carry DIES without so much as a vote!
We need to pour the pressure on!
Please contact the members of the Public Safety Committee listed above and tell them to move HF309 out of their committee immediately!
The legislature is out this week for Easter break so now is a great time to fill up those voicemails.
When you’re done, please chip in just $10 or $20 to help us rally more gun owners to this fight.
