Minnesota Congressman Keith Ellison and Congresswoman Betty McCollum have introduced a gun-control bill in Congress called the “Safer Streets Act,” and they need to hear from you right away. More on that in a minute.
Minnesota Gun Rights is busy day-in and day-out building the grassroots groundswell of support we need to pass critical and substantive pro-gun legislation in Minnesota.
That includes important self-defense legislation like Stand-Your-Ground law.
We believe, as I’m sure you do, that law-abiding citizens should be able to defend themselves against violent attackers wherever they have a lawful right to be.
That includes your home, your car, a hotel room, or even in your local grocer’s parking lot.
Sadly, I’ve seen it all too often in cases across the country where a lawful citizen used deadly force against an attacker – just to get thrown in jail by an anti-gun prosecutor!
Perhaps worse, I’ve read court cases where an attacker or their families came back and sued the victim, looking to make it rich by proving that the victim didn’t fulfill their “duty to retreat” from the attacker.
Stand-Your-Ground law would prevent the majority of these frivolous cases from occurring – and save law-abiding citizens thousands of dollars in legal fees in the process!
That’s why we’re pushing so hard to build the grassroots movement necessary to push these bills through the legislature!
But just last night I learned about a bill that Congressman Keith Ellison (DFL-MN5) and Congresswoman Betty McCollum (DFL-MN4) have authored that needs your attention.
You see, Ellison and McCollum have teamed up with infamous anti-gun Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn) to introduce a bill that tries to lure gun-owners into turning over “assault weapons” to qualify for tax credits!
Calling it the Safer Streets Act (it doesn’t have an HR # yet as it is going to be introduced later this week), this outrageous legislation would do anything other than make citizens safe.
But in fact, this national version of the failed “local gun buyback programs” by police departments across the country would have zero effect on criminals and only remove guns from law-abiding citizens.
It would be better termed the “Deadlier Streets Act.”
And depending on what kind of tax credits they are, your hard-earned tax dollars might be paying to fund this little gun-running scheme!
Unfortunately, this isn’t a new idea.
This is part of an ever-increasing experiment across the country to get gun owners to willingly turn over their firearms and in some cases relinquish their 2nd Amendment rights entirely.
Right here in Minnesota, we’ve been mobilizing gun owners against Senate File 1289 by Senator Ron Latz.
SF1289 would create an entirely new database for medical professionals, counselors and even your local clergy members to use to urge people to willingly add themselves to a list of “prohibited persons” – effectively destroying their 2nd Amendment Rights!
Will either of these bills pass? We don’t know.
We do know that experiments like these need to be stopped immediately.
So here are three simple things you can do to help us make sure that Ellison and McCollum know that gun-owning Minnesotans aren’t standing idly on the sidelines;
▶▶▶ Call Congressman Ellison at 202-225-4755 and demand he remove his name from this bill as a co-author.
Tell him to stop his discriminatory attacks against law-abiding citizens and remove his support for the “Deadlier Streets Act.”
▶▶▶ Call Congresswoman McCollum at 202-225-6631.
Like Ellison, tell McCollum to stop pursuing her extremist agenda against your Right to Keep and Bear Arms and remove her support for the “Deadlier Streets Act.”
When you call, be polite but firm. Politicians are extremely adept at spinning half-truths and lies into plausible stories, so don’t take their spin.
▶▶▶ Lastly, please forward this email to your friends or post this email on your wall and ask your friends to contact Congressman Ellison and McCollum as well.
Thank you for taking immediate action.

P.S. Minnesota Congress members Keith Ellison and Betty McCollum have teamed up with infamous anti-gun Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn) to introduce a bill that lures gun-owners into turning over “assault weapons” to qualify for tax credits.
What’s more, you and I might be footing the bill to the tune of up to $2,000 per “assault weapon.”
This national gun buyback scam is another front in a nationwide experiment by antigunners to try to coerce gun owners into willingly giving up their 2nd Amendment Rights.
Please take a moment to contact Congressman Ellison and Congresswoman McCollum’s office and DEMAND they retract their names as coauthors on this “Deadlier Streets Act.”
